Lake Daniells is a very family friendly tramp and known as one. Well maintained track mostly flat walking through beech forest.
Located: Lewis pass highway: 5km south of Springs Junction. Ample car parking and a DOC camp ground at start of track.
Access: 8.4km, walk time 3 hours on the sign, took us 2.5 with break with little one on back.
Hut features: 22 bunk with two bunk areas either side of the communal area. Multi-fuel burner. Coal on-site. Water in hut. Note in winter may be frozen.
Bonuses: Jetty out into lake. Fishing.

Hut gets very busy, but perfect first tramp if you don’t mind sharing with over 50 people sometimes.
